en hommage à mon fils, Raphaël DROUIN - † 22-04-2014

Bien chers amis,

Dearest Friends,

We are all deeply saddened and shattered by the tragic death of Raphaël Drouin.

Raphaêl was an outstanding person in so many ways, as a human being and as a musician. He was a man with many sides to him. He had that amazing ability to make each person feel special to him and made each person feel they were special themselves.

He himself was very special and very precious to us.

He was the only one of a kind.

The extradordinary musician he was, so versatile, puts him in a category of his own. He continually surprised us, each time more and more. His joy in the sharing of his musical talent was contagious and this sharing like everything else with him had many facets. Friendship, intelligence, deep comprehsion of the Arts, kindness to children, intellectual curiosity, were just some of the aspects to him.

He came back to Giverny, as you would go back to your family and we were there expecting him, as you would expect a son, a brother, a friend. He was the central character of our festival and it seems almost impossible to picture Giverny without him. When we come together once more in August, it will be very difficult, but we know that we owe it to him to be there and to continue.

We feel orphaned, orphaned without him, he who was himself the inconsolable orphan on the loss of his mother two years ago.

We are very upset that he abandoned us so. Life will be more difficult without him, he who chose to leave it.

Our coming festival will be dedicated to his memory.
